CK9 Covid-19 Protocols and Tips, Your health is important to us

Considering the current events, we want to take a moment to share how we keep your furry family members safe while in our care. To start, here are some quick notes about what we know at the time of writing this blog.

According to the CDC on March 12th, 2020

(source: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/faq.html):

There is no reason to think that any animals including pets in the United States might be a source of infection with this new coronavirus. To date, CDC has not received any reports of pets or other animals becoming sick with COVID-19. At this time, there is no evidence that companion animals including pets can spread COVID-19. However, since animals can spread other diseases to people, it’s always a good idea to wash your hands after being around animals.

Creating an environment for happy healthy dogs and humans is one of our core values and instilled in everything we do.

Here are some parts of our regular cleaning routine to make our facility as safe as possible:

  1. Cleaning and disinfecting frequently.

  2. When we disinfect, which is the necessary step to destroy pathogens, we adhere strictly to EPA guidelines to make sure what we are doing actually works. This includes:

  3. Using the right products on the right surfaces

  4. Making sure the surfaces are prepared for disinfecting

  5. Ensuring the products stay on for the full amount of contact time.

  6. Using the correct dilution of each product

  7. All of our disinfectants are registtered by the EPA and some of the products we use for disinfection include

  8. Wysiwash - https://www.wysiwash.com/technical-info

  9. Kennelsol - https://alphatechpet.com/education-alphatechpet.aspx

  10. Odoban Disinfectant - https://odoban.com/what-is-odoban/

  11. Bleach (for laundry)

  12. We require the use of gloves as well as frequent and thorough hand washing for staff, and always after cleaning pet areas.

New policies we have implemented in light of the coronavirus:

  1. Until further notice, we will not be shaking hands or giving hugs when greeting, which is difficult to do in Miami but we are committed! Our big, warm, welcoming smiles will still be here and friendly attitudes aren’t going anywhere:-)

  2. When dogs arrive we will put on one of our leashes and ask owners to remove their own leash and collar and take them home, to minimize the spread of germs via hands from households to our facility and vice versa. Our leashes are disinfected.

  3. We have increased the frequency of disinfection for highly touched areas to several times per day for light switches, doorknobs, keyboards, etc.

  4. Any staff members who are not feeling well, even if it is slight, are being asked to stay home until they feel 100% better.

  5. If you are feeling sick and need to pick up your dog we ask that we do any send home lessons digitally before or after pick-up, and will bring your dog to you so you don’t have to get out of your car at pick up.

We also highly recommend our digital programs where you can train with us from the comfort of your home with online sessions!

Due to the amount of misinformation about effective cleaning and disinfecting I am releasing a series of short videos to help you sift through what actually works and what doesn’t for use in your home.

These videos are based on the professional strategies we use in our company. If you want any more information please check them out!
